About These Terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") apply to community websites, sponsorships and funding arranged through JW Community Websites, including its Supporting Communities sponsorship pot, run by Jake Wells as a sole trader ("I", "me", "my"). By setting up a website for your group, giving to the pot, or funding a group's website, you agree to these Terms.

1. What This Is

JW Community Websites builds, hosts and updates websites for community groups for £20 a month per website. The £20 can be paid by the group itself, by the group and the sponsorship pot together, by the pot alone, or by a council or other funder on the group's behalf. Sponsors, who may be individuals or businesses, give monthly amounts into the pot, and I use the pot to fund websites for groups.

2. Price & Payment

How the £20 is covered is agreed with you in writing before the site goes live. It may be paid by your group, part paid by your group with the pot covering the rest, or covered by the pot, subject to there being room in it. A council or other funder may also pay it, and I can supply a quote and invoices.

• I can send a receipt or invoice on request

3. What Your Group Receives

While the £20 is covered, your group receives a hand-built website that I host, a weekly update round, a contact form, and privacy and cookie policies. If sponsors help fund your site, it also carries a short thank-you to the community sponsors of JW Community Websites, linking to the supporters page.

What Is Not Included

Online shops, directory-style sites and WordPress or page-builder sites. Every site is hand-written HTML. Larger jobs, such as adding a whole new section, are a separate conversation.

4. The Weekly Update Round

Your group sends one batch of changes a week, by the end of Tuesday. I make the changes and publish them between Wednesday and Friday of that week. Anything sent after Tuesday waits for the next round. Correcting my own mistakes is always free and does not use up a round.

5. Content, Images & Permissions

Your group owns its content: the words, logo and photos you supply. You are responsible for making sure it is accurate and lawful to publish, and that you have permission to use every photo. That includes photos of children or vulnerable people, where you must have the appropriate consent before sending them to me. I may decline to publish content that is unlawful or misleading.

6. Sponsor Thank-You on Your Site

If sponsors help fund your site, your group agrees to keep the sponsors' thank-you on the website while that support is in place. The thank-you is added and updated by me.

7. Leaving, and Waiting Lists

Your group can leave at any time with reasonable notice, and I will help you take your site elsewhere in an orderly way. Where a group is waiting for sponsor support, I will tell you where you are on the list. Each week I check the pot, and every £20 a month of unused support funds the next group. Priority goes to community groups, then community-style businesses, and within that generally to the order groups applied. The first three sites are built free as a proof of concept, and are otherwise covered by these Terms.

8. If Funding Stops

If the funding for your site drops away, for example because the pot shrinks or your group stops paying, the site stays live for three months while I look for new support or talk to your group about its options. If none is found in that time, I will help your group move its site elsewhere in an orderly way.

9. Giving to the Pot

Sponsors give any amount they choose each month, by card through a subscription set up on a secure Stripe link. People can choose £10 or £20 a month, businesses can choose £10, £20, £40, £60, £80 or £100 a month, and either can choose their own amount from £5 a month in £5 steps. Sponsors can also make a one-off payment of any amount; once the pot reaches £240, a community website is assigned to it and funded for a year. Every payment goes into one shared pot. There is no setup fee, and I can send a receipt for your records on request.

10. How the Pot Is Used

The pot pays for community websites at £20 a month each. Each week I check how much support is not yet used, and every £20 a month funds one more website, or less where a group pays part itself. I decide which groups are funded, giving priority to community groups, then community-style businesses, and within that generally to the order groups applied.

You may tell me a preference, such as a type of group or an area, and I will take it into account. The pot is shared, so I cannot promise your payments reach any particular group. Sponsors do not own or control any community's website and have no say over what a group publishes.

11. Cancelling

There is no contract. You can stop sponsoring at any time, and no further payments will be taken after you tell me. Payments already made are not usually refunded, but if something has gone wrong, please get in touch and I will put it right where I can. Nothing in these Terms affects any legal rights you have as a consumer.

12. Your Listing

Sponsors are thanked on the Our supporters page, which every funded website links to. A listing can include your name or business name, your logo if you supply one, and a link to a website or page of your choosing. The wording is agreed with you before it goes live, and you can ask for it to be changed or removed at any time.

• Individuals may be listed by full name, by first name only, or not at all
• Business links are marked as sponsored links
• Listings stay factual and are not advertising copy

13. Accepting and Ending Sponsors

I may decline a sponsor, or end a sponsorship and remove a listing, where it would not suit the communities it appears beside. For example, a sponsor whose business is unsuitable for a children's club, whose listing would be misleading, or whose activity is unlawful. Where I do this after payment has been taken, I will refund any unused period.

14. Funding a Group or the Pot

A council, trust, grant maker or other funder may pay for a particular group's £20 a month, pay £240 by card for a year of one website, or give to the pot. I can supply a written quote and invoices, and will tell you which sites the money kept running. Where a funder can only give to constituted groups or charities, the grant can go to the group, which then pays the £20 a month as normal. Funders should check their own rules about who they can pay. JW Community Websites is a sole trader business and is not a charity.

15. Hosting & Domain Names

Sites are hand-built HTML rather than WordPress, so hosting is provided directly rather than through a third-party panel of your choosing. A domain name will be registered on a community's behalf if it needs one, at cost or as otherwise agreed.

16. Intellectual Property & Portfolio Use

A community owns the content of its own website. The underlying code structure and layout patterns remain part of how I work, and may be reused as a starting point for other sites. Unless a community asks me not to, I may feature its site as an example of my work, including on JW Community Websites and my other websites.

17. Liability

I take reasonable care and skill when building and hosting websites. I am not liable for downtime or issues caused by factors outside my reasonable control, such as third-party outages, domain registrars or internet service issues, or for losses arising from inaccurate information supplied to me. My liability for any claim relating to a sponsorship or a website is limited to the fees paid for it.

18. Data Protection

Any personal data collected is handled in line with the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

19. Complaints

20. Changes to These Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. Any significant change will be communicated directly to groups, sponsors and funders with an active arrangement. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent version.

21. General

Governing law: these Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Entire agreement: these Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and anything specifically agreed in writing, form the entire agreement between us. Severability: if any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply as normal.
