No. It is a sponsorship. JW Community Websites is a small business run by one person, not a charity, so Gift Aid does not apply. Money from sponsors pays for community websites to be built, hosted and kept up to date.

Every sponsor's monthly payment, whatever the amount, goes into one shared pot. The pot is checked each week. Every £20 a month of support that has not yet been used funds one more community website, so an extra £60 a month means three more sites. You can read the details on the Supporting Communities page.

It pays for the service: hosting, the weekly update round where a group's changes are made and published, and keeping each site running. It is not passed to a group as cash — it pays for the work, which is how the service is funded.

JW Community Websites builds and looks after websites for community groups at £20 a month. Supporting Communities is the sponsorship programme inside it: sponsors pay into a shared pot that covers the £20 for groups that cannot cover it themselves.

No. Sponsors can stop at any time and groups can leave at any time with reasonable notice. Details are in the terms.

The pot gets smaller. Sites that were already funded stay live for three months while the difference is made up with new sponsors, so a change on the sponsors' side never means a site disappears overnight.

By card, through Stripe, on a secure payment page. Sponsors pay monthly and can choose a set amount or their own amount in £5 steps (people: £10 or £20; businesses: £10 to £100), or give a one-off amount to the shared pot. Groups pay £20 a month, or part of it where sponsor support covers the rest, once their site is ready. Councils and funders can pay £240 for a year of one website. You can stop a monthly payment at any time and payments stop.

JW Community Websites was started by Jake Wells and is kept small and simple on purpose — you deal directly with the person working on your site, not a call centre or an account-manager chain. You can read more on the about page.

Your business name, logo if you like, and a link on the Our supporters page. Every website funded from the pot also carries a line thanking the community sponsors, linking to that page. There are no adverts and no banners.

Village halls, clubs and societies, charities and voluntary groups, classes, and other community groups. Small local businesses can apply too, and priority goes to community-style businesses that serve and support their local area.

£20 a month if your group pays for the site itself. If you can only pay part, the pot covers the rest. If your group cannot pay at all, the pot can cover the full £20, when there is room in the pot.

It depends on how much support is in the pot. It's checked each week, and every £20 a month of unused support opens a place for the next group on the list. Community groups come first, then community-style businesses, and within that it is generally in the order groups applied. You'll always be told where you are.

Your site carries a short line thanking the community sponsors of JW Community Websites, linking to the supporters page. Because sponsors give into a shared pot, they are not listed one by one on each group's site.

You send us one batch of changes a week, such as news, events and photos, by the end of Tuesday. The changes are made and published between Wednesday and Friday that week. Anything sent later waits for next week's round. Corrections to our own mistakes are always free and do not count as a round.

Yes. Your words, photos and logo belong to your group. You are responsible for making sure you have permission to publish them, particularly photos of children or vulnerable people.

Yes. A written quote and invoices can be provided to attach to an application. A year of a community website is £240. See Grants and funders for how it works.

Yes. There are two ways: fund a particular group's £20 a month (or £240 for a year, which can be paid by card), or put money into the shared pot. A written quote, invoices and a short summary of what the money bought can be supplied.

That depends on the funder. Where a funder can only give to constituted groups or charities, the grant goes to the group and the group pays £20 a month as normal. JW is a sole trader business, not a charity.

A clear price, a written quote, invoices, and confirmation of which sites the money has kept running. Outcomes that cannot be shown will not be promised.
